High Running Costs of WordPress Websites – How to Avoid Unnecessary Expenses

WordPress is one of the most popular systems for building websites, yet many users get a nasty surprise when it comes to the running costs.

Again and again I meet clients who can no longer update their WordPress website because important licenses are missing. These are often plugins, themes or tools that do not allow updates without a valid license – a security risk that should not be underestimated.

A recent example from my day-to-day work: A client would have had to pay over €200 a year for plugin licenses to keep their website up to date. Hidden costs like that are not just annoying, they also put the security and functionality of the website at risk.

Transparency and planning from the start

As a WordPress service provider, I see it as my duty to give my clients a transparent overview of possible follow-up costs from the very beginning.

Nobody should be confronted with unexpected expenses after buying a website. That is why I follow a clear philosophy in my projects:

1. Lifetime licenses for premium products

I rely on tools for which I hold lifetime licenses. That means my clients benefit from regular updates and security features in the long term, without paying high annual license fees. Of course, these tools also have to be future-proof, i.e. development and maintenance must be guaranteed for many years. To ensure that, I build WordPress websites on well-known solutions from established vendors.

2. Individual solutions with cost clarity

For special requirements, such as member areas or other project-specific features, additional license costs may apply. These are always communicated up front, so there are no hidden fees. An example: A member area can cause annual costs of around €70, which is made clear from the start.

My promise to my clients

If you buy a WordPress website from me, you can be sure that there are no hidden follow-up costs. All required licenses are included in the quoted price, so your website stays ready to use for 15 to 20 years – without additional fees. Should there be project-specific license costs after all, I will tell you about them transparently.

My goal is not only to deliver a working website, but also to offer long-term security and planning certainty. Because I am convinced: A good website begins with trust and ends with satisfaction.

If you have questions about running costs, maintenance packages or WordPress development, I am always happy to help. Let us create a website together that not only works, but also brings joy in the long run – with no nasty surprises.
